Acacia Catechu in raw state as resin. This resin has a long history of use as a dye (khaki was originally dyed with it), not only for wool and other fibers but for wood (violins) and even people's skin, especially when mixed with red henna. By itself it is a brown dye, but mixed with other dyes, it increases their intensity or changes their color. As a dye Cutch yields yellowish browns, nutmegs, grey browns and olive browns.Cutch has excellent light and washfast properties. It requires 20-50% WOF to dyea medium depth of shade.Use alum mordant at 15% WOF for both proteinand cellulose fibres (there is enough tannin in cutch so mordantingwith tannin is not required).
