Annatto nor Bixin | Natural Orange 4. Annatto is an orange-red food coloring from the seeds of the achiote tree (Bixa orellana) which is native to tropical regions of Mexico to Brazil. It is often used as a yellow or orange to colour food, sometimes for its flavour and aroma and can also be used to dye fibre. Produces beautiful rich gold yellow using copper or alum mordants.
